Our Story
Handley Avenue Church of God
We are a Bible-believing church committed to loving God, loving people, and sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with our community.
Our Mission
Why We Gather
At Handley Avenue Church of God, our mission is simple: to know God, to grow in His grace, and to make His love known in our community and beyond. We are a congregation that believes in the power of prayer, the truth of God's Word, and the importance of genuine fellowship. Every person who walks through our doors is welcomed as family.
Our History
Rooted in Roanoke
For generations, Handley Avenue Church of God has been a cornerstone of faith in Roanoke, Alabama. Founded on the belief that every soul matters to God, our congregation has grown from a small gathering of neighbors into a vibrant community of believers. Through the years, we have seen lives transformed, families restored, and hope renewed — all by the grace of God. We are proud of our heritage and excited about what God has in store for our future.
What We Believe
Our Core Beliefs
We hold to the foundational truths of the Christian faith as expressed in Scripture.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God — our ultimate authority for faith and practice.
The Trinity
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Salvation
We believe that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone — His death, burial, and resurrection provide forgiveness and eternal life.
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the present-day work of the Holy Spirit, who empowers believers for holy living and service.
The Church
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship God, build up believers, and reach the lost with the Gospel.
Eternal Life
We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the promise of eternal life for all who trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
